The OVGA heads to Springboro for the third major of the year, The Dayton Open, and a former tour stop of the Nike (now Nationwide) tour, Heatherwoode Golf Club. This par 71 layout is the city course of Springboro and is kept in great shape. A shot maker's course, the layout boasts 5 separate ponds and 3 meandering creeks. One of those comes into play on this week's Hole Of The Week, the par 4 15th hole. Playing 394 yards from Black, 351 from Green, 335 from Gold and 256 from Silver, it is the 5 HDCP hole. The tee shot has to go around or over two tall trees on the left. The fairway doglegs hard left over a wide creek that closely guards the entire front of the green. Along the left side of the fairway is a row of trees that block any approach getting too close, forcing a lay up to the end of the fairway. Players will want to make sure their tee shot goes far enough to get past these, or right enough to allow the following approach shot to go over. The elbow of the dogleg starts at around the 150yd mark, and the fairway ends at around the 90 yard mark. This leaves an area perhaps 70 yards wide on which to land the tee shot. The approach is straight-forward, providing the player has one. The green is flat an uncomplicated but is narrow in depth, less than 20 yards. Behind is a row of mounds that complicate a recovery shot somewhat. Get off the tee, and the hole becomes a short par 3. There will be birdies on this hole.
