At Windy Knoll

In the Nicklaus Flight, Ed Thompson founds Windy Knoll to be a pleasant breeze as he routed the rest of the flight, finishing at an incredible -9 on the day.  Thompson’s gross 70 was the best gross score recorded in an OVGA round in 2008.  Finishing a distant 2nd were Ron Spencer and Steve Brooks at net 68.

In the Palmer Flight, Michael Frank continued his dominating play, winning his second consecutive tournament and notching his 3rd win of the season.  Frank finished at net 67, 2 shots better than Chad Stewart and Dan Furlong.

In the Hogan Flight, Steve Waterhouse claimed his first win of the season, with an Ed Thompson-like performance.  Waterhouse fired a net 63 to post a 7-shot advantage over Gerry Burris.

In the Trevino Flight, Steve Brooks defeated Ron Spencer in a one-hole playoff to grab the victory.

In the Lopez Flight, Phyllis Bare was uncontested as she collected her 6th victory in the ladies-only flight.

At Heatherwoode

In the Nicklaus Flight, it’s starting to become commonplace now…almost a ho-hum happening.  He shed the “best player to never win” tag by winning the Dayton Open at Moss Creek just 2 weeks ago.  His return to Dayton saw him grab his 2nd career victory.  Tom Camacho, Karsten Klint and Bill Dreisbach all finished the day at net 72 and the dreaded scorecard playoff would ensue.  Dreisbach and Klint bogeyed the #1 handicapped hole (par 5 11th hole) while Camacho posted par and the victory.  And yes, Tom called his shot before the round…AGAIN!

In the Palmer Flight, Rich Lakes stepped up and won for the first time in 2008, firing a net 67 which was good enough for a 2-shot victory.  Gerry Weisgerber (69), Michael Frank (70) and Tom Haley (70) all broke net par as well.

In the Hogan Flight, Ray Hatfield recorded one of his best rounds ever, shooting a net 68 and finishing 4 shots ahead of Frank Kilgore to post his first OVGA victory.

In the Trevino Flight, Rich Lakes claimed the double dip with a 2-shot victory in the 50-and-over flight.

In the Lopez Flight, Phyllis Bare defeated Debby Lakes in a scorecard playoff to win for the 7th time and to thwart Rich and Debby from becoming the first husband and wife to win flights in the same OVGA event.

Next week the August doubleheaders continue with the Stewart Invitational at White Oak and the final event of the Dayton swing as we attempt Yankee Trace for the 3rd time this year (PRAY WE DON’T GET HAILED ON!!!).  Only 5 events remain to gain ground for playoff seeding.
