June Events on the OVGA Tour

May 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Next month is setting up to be a fun month on the OVGA Tour.  June is usually the month we see a lot of movement in the Conquest Cup points standings as players jockey for position for the East-West Cup match in July.  On 16 spots are available per team so points are hard to come by and every missed opportunity could result in being left off the roster for the July 5 grudge match.  But there’s more to the month of June than EWC prep.

It all kicks off with the Applebee’s Community Challenge at Crooked Tree on Sunday, June 1.  Teams of two will compete for points and bragging rights in the inaugural event.  Each 2-person team will represent an area Applebee’s location and the player who comes in with the low net score of the tournament will receive dinner at Applebee’s following the round.

June 7, the OVGA returns to Sharon Woods Golf Course for the Casey McAlister Classic.  Sharon Woods is celebrating their 70th birthday this year.  The course officially opened on May 28, 1938 when Bobby Jones hit the first tee shot.  The monstrous 460-yard par 4 3rd hole is statistically one of the toughest holes on the OVGA Tour each season.  Sharon Woods was also the site of the very first hole-in-one in OVGA history when Brian Huss holed his tee shot on the uphill 11th hole on September 18, 2005.

Fairfield hosts the annual Swing Speed Radar Father’s Day Open on June 15.  Fairfield offers golfers of all skills levels the chance to post a low score.  The course has hosted an OVGA major as Joe Vlachos captured the first Tri-State Open title at Fairfield in 2004.  Since 2004, the course has been home to the Father’s Day Open as the OVGA invites its members to invite their sons/daughters and fathers to join them in this event.

On June 22, the OVGA returns to Yankee Trace for Take 2 of the previously scheduled tournament.  Yankee Trace is one of Dayton’s premier public courses and a favorite among many tour players.  The course hosted the Dayton Open in 2005 and also hosted an event by the same name on the Nationwide Tour.

Rounding out the month, on June 28-29 is the premier event on the OVGA schedule…our US Open.  The Tri-State Open comes to the Links at Grand Victoria for the 2nd time.  Grand Victoria hosted the Tri-State Open back in 2005 and is one of the more popular stops on tour for more reasons than just the golf.  The OVGA has worked an agreement with the casino in which lunch will be provided at the casino buffet for no additional charge.  The following day, the OVGA pays tribute to its many sponsors with a special Sponsors Appreciation Day where golfers can take advantage of a special reduced rate of $50.

We look forward to seeing you at all of the June stops on the OVGA Tour where you’ll experience The Best Golf In Town…Any Way You Slice It!
