The OVGA is currently taking spots for the Match-Play Championship which will get underway on Saturday, April 27 at Walden Ponds Golf Club. Initially the opener was to be held on April 6, but we wanted to give extra time to tour rookies who are getting their handicaps situated.
Format will be to rank the player from top seed to lowest seed based on USGA Index. We’re shooting for 64 players but can go with more or less depending on the turnout. To date, 25 players have signed up in the first few hours of the announcement. Tournament will be handicapped, but we have not decided on 60% (as was used last year) or full HCP (which is regularly used in the tournaments).
The unique and sometimes confusing part of the match-play tournament is that it will be played simultaneously with regular stroke play events and will be conducted under regular stroke play rules (not match play rules, ie no gimme putts or failing to complete a hole). Players will play out each hole from tee to cup and lowest score on a hole wins the hole. Win the most holes, win the match.
The current schedule for the tournament is:
Round 1 - April 27 - Walden Ponds
Round 2 - May 10 - Beckett Ridge
Round 3 - May 24 - Eagle Creek
Round 4 - June 15 - Fairfield
Round 5 - July 20 - Deer Run
Championship - August 9 - Windy Knoll
Past winners of the Match Play Tournament
2005 - Joe Vlachos, 2006 - Jerry Inebnit, 2007 - Tom Camacho

Thanks for moving the match play back a little Chad. Count me in- I’ll make for “easy pickens” for whatever Eagle Flight golfer draws me but I’m game anyway…
